Biography
Lanya Yu is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she is pursuing degrees in Information Systems, Data Science, and Risk Management & Insurance. She is excited about exploring the intersection of business and technology and has served on the executive boards of multiple campus organizations, including Information Systems Society, Women in Business Technology, and the Wisconsin AI Safety Initiative (WAISI), where she serves as Communications Lead. She is also a student member of Women in Technology-Wisconsin.
During the semester, Lanya works part-time as an undergraduate teaching assistant for CompSci 220 – Introduction to Data Science Programming at UW-Madison. This summer, she will also be interning with Komatsu North America as a Business Intelligence Intern.
Outside of school and work, Lanya is an avid explorer of ideas and experiences. She enjoys books, tennis, and has recently begun learning taekwondo. Whether at a concert, café, or the gym, she’s happiest when learning, moving, or discovering something new.
Lanya will be presenting on the topic of AI safety at the conference along with others from WAISI, a robust campus organization dedicated to fostering student engagement in AI safety research and encouraging thought toward responsible AI development. She is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to IT-related conversations alongside professionals in the field.
