Biography
Brian Wilt came to UW-Madison as a PhD student in German linguistics in 2014. To make ends meet beyond the dismal TA salaries available, he began working part-time as an student sysadmin for the College of Engineering, in the Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) department. In 2017, he took on an LTE position for several semesters, before being hired full-time to manage the Linux lab machines and support infrastructure services such as ticket tracking and service monitoring. He has continued to take on new and exciting challenges with CAE and helps to manage various networking services like DNS and DHCP, as well as collaborate with cloud-native architecture deployments. Although no longer pursuing a PhD, Brian continues to also partake in the academic culture at the UW outside of his IT job, including attending conferences and seminars in German linguistics and medieval studies.
